Background  Throughout the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region much emphasis has been placed on the role and importance of entrepreneurship education in higher education, its benefits to the employability of graduates and its potential contribution to innovation and economic growth.

Continue  Given the social, economic and political volatility of the region, universities are facing unprecedented challenges to their purpose, and their institutional role within the wider economy and society.

Continue  Whilst a multitude of enterprise support services, incubators and financing specifically targeting youth (aged between 18 – 30 years) exist in Jordan and throughout the region, these seldom effectively include the university itself.  Indeed, the university as a key institutional stakeholder within the entrepreneurship eco-system is often absent.

Entrepreneurial University in Jordan Program  Introduce the ‘Entrepreneurial University in Jordan Program and its process  The program was run by the British Council in partnership with Queen Rania Center for Entrepreneurship - Jordan, faculty for factory- Jordan and Plymouth University-UK

Process  Invitation was sent to all Jordanian university to attend the entrepreneurial university seminar.  One day seminar was conducted in September 2015 (25 university and their partners attended)  University submitting application form to attend the workshop  Evaluation of the application was done (Ten university were selected with their partners for the workshop )  The Entrepreneurial University Workshop was conducted during the global entrepreneurship week November  Ongoing follow up

Seminar aims was to  Introduce and discuss the ‘entrepreneurial university’ and ‘entrepreneurial learning’ concepts.  Create awareness about the project’s horizons.  Introduce the ‘Entrepreneurial University in Jordan Program’ and its process.

The Entrepreneurial University Workshop  This workshop have been created in the purpose to bring entrepreneurship concept to the Universities in Jordan.  The workshop followed a 4-dimension framework to teach enrolled how to bring in entrepreneurship concept to the university strategic plan, leadership and culture.

Graduate enterprise incubation environments (GEIEs) *  (GEIEs) : is the physical or virtual environments that support the development of new venture creation and/or entrepreneurial skills among students and graduates.  The benchmarking framework was developed by Haya Al-Dajani, Evangelos Dedoussis, Erika Watson and Nikolaos Tzokas is specifically designed for higher education institutions to consider when developing environments to encourage entrepreneurship among their students, graduates and staff.

Graduate enterprise incubation environments (GEIEs)  The framework is a non-prescriptive tool which can be used by universities as a practical mechanism for plotting and monitoring progress towards an enabling environment for entrepreneurial graduates.

A GEIE includes:  Serviced workspace with specific entry criteria and time limits provided at below-market rates.  Entrepreneurial learning, business development and/or technical support with in-curricular and/or extra- curricular training, mentoring and introduction to external networks and experts.  Forums for peer-to-peer support and synergy between nascent and existing entrepreneurs.
