INTERNATIONAL VILLAGE SCHOOL KENYA ConnectSwiss
International Village School - not just another high school The International Village School opened in February 2008 in Emuhaya district, Western Kenya. it is a unique school which targets very poor but high performing students who would otherwise be unable to attend secondary school. more than 50% of our students attend completely free; the rest pay reduced fees. it follows the Kenyan curriculum but has international standards. academic results at the end of 2009: Form One 69%, Form Two 67% (government schools in the area have averages below 50%) every student has his/her own textbook in every subject. the school focuses its resources on providing the necessary learning environment and tools for the best possible performance of every student. extra curricular activities including films, books and sports give a unique learning opportunity for rural teenagers.
Seeing the students at school is one part of the story. Let’s look at the other part…
My name is Cedric Jumba. I attend the International Village School. Here I am at 6am preparing for school.
I live with my grandmother, this is our house. My mother died when I was 5 and my dad died two years later. Even having enough to eat was a problem in primary school and a well-wisher paid my primary certificate exam fee.
Here I am walking to school, the round trip is about 10km.
A hot cup of porridge at school at 10am is the first meal of the day.
I would not be able to attend high school at all without sponsorship. If I work hard enough, one day I hope to be a doctor
