Young Geographers Project WELLIES ON WEDNESDAYS! A Journey Around Austrey School

We can see a little red boat. It went past mountains, a water fall, grass, sticky mud, a pond and stones in the river. It went in the estuary to meet the sea. Having talked about the environmental features in this fictional text the children in reception took a journey around the school.

What can you hear? ‘I can hear the wind hushing in the trees.’ ‘I can hear some birds.’

What can you see? ‘We haven’t got a mountain, we have got a hill.’ ‘I can see some trees.’

Using known phonics the children added a simple caption or sentence. The class helped by offering suggestions of phonemes needed. Here Lorena waited until she could work alone. Next week – Can we find a stream in Austrey?
