Reaching Communities Version 2 – September 2008 Slide 2 Reaching Communities Outcome 1: People having better chances in life, with better access to training and development to improve their life skills Outcome 2: Stronger communities, with more active citizens, working together to tackle their problems Outcome 3: Improved rural and urban environments, which communities are better able to access and enjoy Outcome 4: Healthier and more active people and communities

Reaching Communities Version 2 – September 2008 Slide 3 Reaching Communities Who can apply?  Registered charities  Charitable or not-for-profit organisations or companies  Social enterprises  Statutory bodies including schools

Reaching Communities Version 2 – September 2008 Slide 4 Reaching Communities What can be funded ?  Revenue and capital costs  Up to five years’ funding  Grants between £10,000 and £500,000  Total project cost (all sources of funding) must not be more than £750,000  Capital element of the project must not be more than £200,000, of which up to 50,000 can come from Reaching Communities  Associated organisational costs - principle of full cost recovery  Existing projects as well as new

Version 2 – September 2008 Slide 6 Reaching Communities How to apply: Stage one - outline proposal form  BIG advises whether it is something that can be funded under the programme  Response normally within 15 working days Changes from March 2007  No governing documents required  No signatures required  More evidence of need

Reaching Communities Version 2 – September 2008 Slide 7 Reaching Communities How to apply: Stage two – full application  Larger form, more detail required  If application incomplete – missing information within 15 working days  Response within four months Changes from March 2007  Existing projects need to provide written evaluation to support project  If unsuccessful, cannot re-apply for 12 months, for the same project

Reaching Communities Version 2 – September 2008 Slide 8 Reaching Communities Assessment criteria 1.How do the proposed project outcomes meet an identified need and help to achieve the programme outcomes? 2.Can the organisation deliver the project well and achieve the proposed project outcomes?

Reaching Communities Version 2 – September 2008 Slide 9 Application process-summary Come up with an good idea Send an outline proposal BIG will let you know within 15 working days whether you might get a grant and send out an application form Plan the project Submit a completed application form within six months BIG will assess the project and let you have a decision within four months

Reaching Communities Version 2 – September 2008 Slide 12 Reaching Communities Outcomes - definitions  Outcomes are all the changes and effects that actually happen as a result of your work, expected or unexpected. Need to be SMART  Targets show the level or extent to which you expect to achieve your outcomes or milestones  Milestones are the key activities, tasks, services or changes that will take place at different stages in the project
