Our Practices over IPv6 - For CANS 2008 Yuan Hua : School of Computer Science & Engineering Communication & Computer Network key-Lab of Guangdong province South China University of Technology (SCUT) 22/10/2008 Indianapolis, IN

Outline  Introduction of SCUT & Our team South China University of Technology (SCUT)  IPv6 infrastructure of SCUT  Our Practices over IPv6 NMS (Network Management System) Video Applications over IPv6  VOD  Video Surveillance  Video conference CBIR (Content Based Image Retrieval)

SCUT Location

South China University of Technology  Established in 1952  Listed with the universities whose development receives priority endorsement by the government in the 21st century ( “211 Project” ) in 1995  Established Graduate School with the approval of the State Ministry of Education(MOE) in 2000  Listed among the top 34 universities in China ( “985 Project”) in 2001  The number of teachers is over 4600 and the total number of students is over 66000

South China University of Technology

Introduction of SCUT  Communication and Computer Network Laboratory (CCNL, belongs to SCUT, also to Guangdong province) Focus on  Advanced Internet technology  Internet Applications  I am working for CCNL as a teacher and researcher

Our team  About 20 professors and 50 research assistants working for the research areas  80 engineers providing IT professional services Software development Network maintenance and management IT Training Consultant

Outline  Introduction of SCUT & Our team  IPv6 infrastructure of SCUT  Our Practices over IPv6 NMS (Network Management System) Video Applications over IPv6  VOD  Video Surveillance  Video conference CBIR (Content Based Image Retrieval)

IPv6 in SCUT

SCUT is Core Node of South China N.UniversityIPv6 Addr.WEBsit 1SCUT 2001:250:1800::/ :250:2000::/ South China Normal University 2001:251:4002::/48http://ipv6.scnu.edu.cn/ 3 South China Agriculture University 2001:DA8:2004::/48http:// 4Zhongshan University2001:250:3002::/48ipv6www.sysu.edu.cn 5 Guangdong University of Foreign Students 6Guangzhou University2001:250:2000:10::10/64  Over 10 universities accessed CERNET2 via SCUT core nodes until now

Outline  Introduction of SCUT & Our team  IPv6 infrastructure of SCUT  Our (CCNL team) Practices over IPv6 NMS (Network Management System) Video Applications over IPv6  VOD  Video Surveillance  Video conference CBIR (Content Based Image Retrieval)

Network Management System

Video On Demand

Characteristic of VOD  Provide VOD program Cable Television program Satellite Television High-Division program Other teaching resources  Every day, this program produces amounts of IPv6 traffics (unicast and multicast)  The traffics (Also produced by other sources) can be analyzed by NMS

Video Surveillance System (BrightEye)  Three parts: Cameras + video gathers, Server, and display client.

Client Side’s Interface (now running in SCUT)

Characteristics of BrightEye  Now running on our lab and campus About 20 cameras which spreads around our lab Authorized user can use BrightEye to see what is actually happening at where he can access internet  Adopt image process technology, can provide intrusion alarm  Can display in user-defined mode  Can support IPv4 &IPv6

Video Conference System (CoolView)

Client Side’s Interface 1920×1080

Remote Controller

Conference Server ( B/S )

Characteristics of CoolView  No MCU  Support IPv4 & IPv6  Support multicast  Support different quality of video 1080i SD QCIF  Support QoS to some extent

Video Applications Test Environment

Content Based Image Retrieval  Focus on Standard image DB Open to the researchers

Interfaces

Other practices over IPv6  Cluster/Grid  Mass data processing  IPv6 traffic analysis  IPv6 security  IPv6 anycast research  IPv6 based applications (such as MIS, , BBS, and so on)
