OAK HALL SCHOOL BIODIESEL PROJECT By: Erich Christian

OBJECTIVES Reduce dependence on fossil fuel Reduce UVO to landfill and waste water treatment facilities Apply carbon accounting procedures Students become environmental stewards Research applied in school environment Rancid oil gains respectability as energy source

PLAN Collect UVO from students’ families Obtain outside UVO supply to complement above Manufacture biodiesel from UVO at Oak Hall School Goal is gallons/year Create operational/safety manual Promote throughout community -schools, youth centers, etc

CHALLENGES Identify & satisfy permitting requirements Identify & acquire spill proof, reusable collection container Develop environmental stewardship attitude for UVO collection in school & community

TIME FRAME Build Biodiesel Reactor - Summer 2008 First Production Run – Fall 2008 In School Promotion – Summer 2008 and beyond Operation/Safety Manual – Spring 2009

FUTURE PLANS Develop program to promote UVO recycling as biofuel throughout Florida -Collection sites at Boys/Girls Clubs, YMCAs, YWCAs, churches Encourage students to explore alternative, sustainable energy resources and resource recovery
