Quality Involvement for Equality Project to foster stakeholder engagement in the European development education sector

Project Summary Address technology deficit in civil society to engage, mobilise and activate Customize the platform to our need during 1) GLEN’s multi stakeholder Strategy Process with European young activitist and global partners, 2) with national DARE Forum members Study the ways technology can support and enable systemic change and participatory engagement. Funding DEEEP facilitated a self-selection and self-assessment process Six finalists were selected by pre-selection team The six rated each other based on a number of different factors The final three were funded by DEEEP through a sub-grant Why did we start this project? How was it selected for funding?

Quality involvement for equality 1. Learning Objectives How to Enable Systemic Change with Community Engagement Technology How to Build Feedback Loops and Civil Society Networks with Participatory Technology What Technical Processes & Considerations are Needed to Enable New Power How to Bridge Global and Local Action with Technology EngageUnderstandBuildReport Continuous Learning Process

Quality involvement for equality 2. Activities  Communicate Project to Target Groups  Compile Learning Objective Indicators for Capacity-Building Needs  Build EU Powerline Technology Compatibility  Host 1 st Webinar with Collected Feedback and Findings  Refine Powerline Platform Functionality  Host 2 nd Webinar with Collected Feedback and Findings  Project Dissemination and Results Sharing Note: Some original activities were changed due to organizational alignment / scheduling issues as well as changes in organizational status from January (proposal) to June (execution).

Quality involvement for equality 3. Outcomes Increased Online Engagement in GLEN Strategy Process Sustainable, Online Engagement of GLEN stakeholders Involvement of DARE Forum for Identification of DE Features for Powerline Identification of Valuable Features Needed for Powerline Technology for Knowledge Sharing, Communities of Practice, Democratic Engagement, and Civil Society Organizations Explored Learning Objectives GLEN NetworkDARE ForumPowerline Civil Society Organizations Beneficiaries

Current Status Civil society technology usage research survey completed Two of the five revised technology scope efforts have been completed Other three beginning shortly We could not partner on the GLEN Strategy Process as originally intended due to technology readiness issues

Lessons Learned General CSO-Powerline Partnerships – Separating technology development contracting from project management contracting Technology Outsourcing – Utilizing fixed bid pricing and schedule guarantees Scope Control – Adopting rigorous evaluation and assessment of scope changes Key DARE Forum Survey Findings / Highlights Most CSOs utilize social media and lists as primary communications tools – some have in-house websites, but fear creating too much noise Only half used technology for virtual engagement opportunities, organizing action, creating space for discussions, or supporting networking Largest challenge is getting people to participate

Next Steps & Recommendations Next Steps  Present 2 nd Webinar on Powerline Technology  Present final narrative report to DEEEP  Complete remaining technology development efforts Recommendations  Recommend testing of Powerline technology with World Citizens Movement practitioners for systemic change  Recommend identification and development on additional Powerline technology features to strengthen civil society benefits  Recommend adoption of Powerline communications technology to supplement GLEN community network technology
