Geographic Landforms Warm-up What is Geography? (DOK 1) Do you know what a landform is? Explain…(DOK 2) Can you name any landforms around Colorado Springs? (DOK 3)

Landforms Landform- a natural feature of the Earth’s surface Landforms, like natural resources, can determine where a group of people settle and then attempt to make a civilization. The better a landform is for human settlement, the easier it is to develop…example, it is easier to build a city on a plain versus a mountain…it is easier to have a civilization on a peninsula versus an island…

Landforms- Land Plateau Mountain Glacier Peninsula Desert Plains Canyon

Landforms - Water Lake Island Strait Archipelago River Delta

Let’s Practice! Strait What are these difficult landforms? Plateau Peninsula Desert Delta Archipelago/Islands

Follow-Up Questions 1. Of the Landforms (Land), which one do you think is the easiest to have a civilization on and which is the most difficult? Explain you answers to both…(DOK 2) 2. Can you name at least 2 resources from the following regions? Canada, Mexico and Central America, Caribbean, South America…(DOK 1) 3. How can different landforms and/or natural resources affect the way a group of people live and form civilizations? (DOK 2) 4. If you could begin your own civilization, which landform would you choose? Also, which natural resources do you think would occur near your landform? Would they be enough? (DOK 3)

Put it all together… Now, you will determine your ultimate location for a settlement. Consider the following when making your decision: 1. What climate is the best for you settlement? Why? 2. What Natural resources are the best for your settlement? Why 3. What landform would work best for your civilization? Why? 4. Is there anywhere in the world that you know of that would fit a lot of your description? If you need help with this part…ask me!
