Undertaking Disciple-Making Mark 6:7-13 Larry Cline – Hardin Valley Church of Christ – 1/4/2015

YOU NOT LISTENING WILL NOT STOP HIM FROM SPEAKING.

He can be REJECTED but He will NOT be SILENCED.

Jesus gave the disciples their first assignment in what would become their mission for life.

18 And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:18-20 )

Three things to notice:

1.Jesus used the word. 2.“Make disciples” is one word in the Greek language, and of course a verb.  “A pupil is not above his teacher; but everyone, after he has been fully trained, will be like his teacher.” (Luke 6:40 ) 3.All Christians are supposed to be disciples, and disciplers.

There is one major difference between what Jesus did and what Rabbis did.  Matthew 23:8, 10  8 But do not be called Rabbi; for One is your Teacher, and you are all brothers.  10 Do not be called leaders; for One is your Leader, [that is], Christ.

25 But Jesus called them to Himself and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great men exercise authority over them. 26 It is not this way among you, but whoever wishes to become great among you shall be your servant, 27 and whoever wishes to be first among you shall be your slave.” (Matthew 20:25-27 )

Three major Disciple Making Principles we must understand 1. The Principle of Association.  He appointed twelve that they might be with him and that he might send them out to preach. (Mark 3:14 )

Disciples are not made in masses, they are made in small groups and as individuals.

2.The Principle of Authority.  We have no right to be disciple makers unless our lives correctly answer 3 questions.

 What is the motive?  What is the message?  Where is the mercy?

3. The Principle of Accountability.  Why always two by two?  Credibility of a witness is established by 2 or more  Encouragement & accountability

If we are going to be faithful we have to understand 2 important principles. 1.Going – demands leaving. 2.Finding – demands losing.

The Gospel is always bad news before it can be good news. C.S. Lewis
