Word By Mrs. Yollis Chaparral Elementary

is a computer program that allows you to create written documents.

To open Word, click on the W in the dock.

Next, the Project Gallery will open up. We are looking for a word document.

There is the Word Document. Click

That will open up a New Document. It will say Document 1 at the top of the new document.

If you are already in WORD, you will see the word WORD next to the blue apple in the menu bar.

The menu bar is always found at the top of the screen.

Today we are going to introduce and use the editing skills of copy, cut, and paste. What does edit mean?

ed·it verb to prepare a document for printing by correcting errors and ensuring clarity and accuracy

Here is a paragraph about our morning assembly. Every Wednesday morning we have an assembly. Second, we have morning announcements. Finally, we all say The Pledge of Allegiance in unison. First, we greet our principal, Mrs. Harding.

This paragraph does not make any sense! Why? Every Wednesday morning we have an assembly. Second, we have morning announcements. Finally, we all say The Pledge of Allegiance in unison. First, we greet our principal, Mrs. Harding.

The black sentence makes sense. However, the blue, orange, and green sentences are out of order. Every Wednesday morning we have an assembly. Second, we have morning announcements. Finally we all say The Pledge of Allegiance in unison. First, we greet our principal, Mrs. Harding.

One solution would be to retype the paragraph. Every Wednesday morning we have an assembly. Second, we have morning announcements. Finally we all say The Pledge of Allegiance in unison. First, we greet our principal, Mrs. Harding.

The best thing to do would be to copy, cut, and paste! Every Wednesday morning we have an assembly. Second, we have morning announcements. Finally we all say The Pledge of Allegiance in unison. First, we greet our principal, Mrs. Harding.

Step 1: HIGHLIGHT the sentence you want to edit.

The last sentence has been HIGHLIGHTED.

You cannot copy, cut, or paste unless you have HIGHLIGHTED!

You cannot copy, cut, or paste unless you have HIGHLIGHTED!

The last sentence has been HIGHLIGHTED, so I can copy it.

Step 2: Under Edit, select the word Copy.

Notice the shortcut keystrokes. Apple + C It will be a useful shortcut for you.

By selecting Copy or pressing Apple + C, Word will make a copy of that green sentence for you.

Step 3: Under Edit, locate the word Cut.

Notice its shortcut keystrokes. Apple + X It will be a useful shortcut for you.

By selecting Cut or pressing Apple + X, Word will cut that green sentence out of the paragraph for you.

Step 4: Place the cursor where you want to paste the green sentence that you just copied.

Step 5: Under Edit, select the word Paste.

Notice its shortcut keystrokes. Apple + V It will be a useful shortcut for you.

By selecting Paste or pressing Apple + V, Word will paste, or place, the green sentence that you copied right where you want it.

Now the paragraph is in order. Thank you Copy, Cut, and Paste!

Now you will practice with the Edit pull- down menu.

Remember, you must HIGHLIGHT a sentence before you can edit.

When you get to your computer you will have two paragraphs to edit on your desktop.

Practice changing the font, the font size, and the font color. Thank you and see you in two weeks! Mrs. Yollis Be sure to spel all wurds currectly!
