4p + 5 = 3p p + 5 = 3p 75 - Swap Sides, Swap Signs = 4p 75 3p = 7p 70 = p 10

Now try these: 3c -21 = c + 5 2e – 3 = 15 – 4e 3d + 8 = 5d – 2 4f – 7 = 20 + f 8g + 21 = 4g + 33

Multiplying out brackets 4( x + 7 ) Multiply every thing inside the brackets. = 4x (7 – 2g) = 56 – 16g

Now try: 6(2b – 9) 3(5a – 3) 4(2x + 1) 6(3 + y) 7(4b -11) 3(12 – 5y) 11(r + 3)

Read the following information on graphs. I am not setting you questions to answer on this yet, but I want you to be clear about how the formulae y = mx + c would help you to work out the coordinates for plotting a line on a graph. Next week I will set you questions to answer on this.

y axis x axis (3,6) (2,4) (1,2) (-3,-6) The y coordinate is always double the x coordinate y = 2x

Straight Line Graphs y = ½ x y = x y = -x y = 2x y = 3x y = 4x y = 5x y axis x axis

y = 2x+1 y = 2x - 5 y = 2x+6y = 2x- 2 y axis x axis

All straight line graphs can be expressed in the form y = mx + c m is the gradient of the line and c is the y intercept The graph y = 5x + 4 has gradient 5 and cuts the y axis at 4
