English 2 November I CAN EDIT SENTENCES FOR MISTAKES IN QUOTATION MARKS. I CAN DEMONSTRATE COMPREHENSION OF A TEXT BY ANSWERING LITERAL, INTERPRETIVE, AND EVALUATIVE QUESTIONS.

When used with quotation marks, other marks of punctuation are placed according to the following rules: 1. Periods and commas should always be placed inside the closing question marks. 2. Colons and semicolons are always placed outside the closing quotation marks. 3. Question marks and exclamation points are placed inside the closing quotation marks if the quotation itself is a question or exclamation; otherwise, they are placed outside. 1.Jerome said The books are packed and ready to be moved. 2.Its cold in here Joe exclaimed. 3.Did Emma say I made it myself 4.If you wish Mrs. Osaka said I can tell you how the Japanese celebrate Tanabata. 5.What do you think it was she whispered

Check yourself 1.Jerome said, “The books are packed and ready to be moved.” 2.“It‘s cold in here!” Joe exclaimed. 3.Did Emma say, “I made it myself”? (because “I made it myself” isn’t a question) 4.“If you wish,” Mrs. Osaka said, “I can tell you how the Japanese celebrate Tanabata.” 5.“What do you think it was?” she whispered.

A Block Thursday article of the week discussion

As You Read Chapters In Chapter 6, how and why do Ishmael and his companions start farming in the village of Kamator? Why is farming so difficult for Ishmael? 2. After Kamator has been attacked, and the two boys have been cut off from the others in fleeing, Ishmael and Kaloko sneak out of the bush and back into Kamator, bringing along brooms every time. Why do they bring brooms? And why, later, does Ishmael set out on his own? 3. What does Ishmael tells us was the “most difficult part of being in the forest” (p. 52)? And who are the six boys Ishmael encounters after wandering and surviving in the forest on his own for more than a month? Where does he know some of these boys from? 4. Who is the anonymous man with the fishing hut near the ocean, and how does he help to soothe and heal the severely scalded feet of Ishmael and the others? And later, how are the lives of all seven boys saved by rap music—specifically the music of LL Cool J?

Create a T-Chart for chapters 6-8 It is better to travel and be with a group. It is better to be an individual. B Block: Finish the T-Chart with chapters 7 and 8.

Journal “This is one of the consequences of the civil war. People stop trusting each other, and every stranger becomes an enemy.” In response to the quote, what happens to people and communities when certain types of people are feared? What happens to the feared? What happens to the fearful?
