Student’s Role in Registration  Review your teachers’ recommendations for English, Math Science, and Social Studies classes.  Talk with your parents about your academic goals for next year’s classes. Aim for higher grades.  Learn about elective choices by paying attention and asking questions when the HS counselors visit. Rank your choices in order of preference. Cross your fingers.  Know that your academic performance affects your progress towards graduation AND your choices for classes.  Pay attention and follow the directions.

Teacher’s Role in Registration  Make sound recommendations for core classes based on student’s abilities, performance, and the requirements/expectations of the class.

Counselor’s Role in Registration  Explain the pre-registration process to students.  Help students understand academic expectations for high school, especially for the 9 th grade.  Help students understand elective options and the importance of prioritizing preferences.  Answer any questions students may have regarding registration or help find answers when they are not sure.

Parent’s Role in Registration  Much the same as the students’ - you are partners.  Review and approve academic and elective choices on the respective forms.  Follow up with current teachers with academic placement questions.  Indicate any placement concerns on the Academic course recommendation form.

This week… COMPLETE REGISTRATION FORMS  This week, students will receive their official registration forms.  Teacher recommendations for classes in their subjects will be listed on the forms.  Students will select 8 additional elective preferences and list them in order of preference. We will not guarantee elective choices.  Turn in forms, complete with parent signature, to the YMS teacher. If your form is not turned in, we will select your classes for you without your input.
