Resource Development Team2 Elluminate: Using it for the first time Communicator Communicator enables you to have integrated instant messaging using: Voice Text Webcam It allows you to share your desktop and to quickly see whether others are available to join you.

Resource Development Team3 Elluminate: Using it for the first time Communicator To access Communicator: 1.Go to the Start icon 2.Key in Communicator in the search bar 3.Click on Communicator program

Resource Development Team11 Elluminate: Using it for the first time Communicator When you double click on a Contact a new window will open. This is where conversations take place. Your contact will receive a pop-up invite. When clicked, the dialogue commences. By default, it allows texting. You key in your text in the lower section and hit enter when you wish to send. Once sent it will appear in the Conversation area. Emoticons add ‘tone’ to your text chat. Note: You cannot change text once sent. CAPS is shouting in texting! Texting

Resource Development Team12 Elluminate: Using it for the first time Communicator To commence a voice conversation, click on the Phone icon. If you initiate the call a new grey alert appears. If you are receiving a call, a orange alert appears and an audio alert will sound. Click this to answer. When clicked, the voice dialogue starts. There is no need to wait... It’s just like using the telephone! To hang up, click the icon. This will end the voice conversation – not the session. To mute/open your microphone, toggle the icon. Voice

Resource Development Team13 Elluminate: Using it for the first time Communicator If you have a WebCam attached to your computer, a video call is as easy as clicking on the Cam icon. Resource Development Team14 Elluminate: Using it for the first time Communicator It’s very easy to share a desktop in Communicator. Use the icon to start sharing. Others will be invited to join the sharing (just like with the call). A lime green border will appear around the desktop being shared with a tab. Desktop Control is managed from this tab and mouse and keyboard input can be given to any or all participants from this dropbox. Just use the to stop sharing the desktop. This will not end your Communicator session. Desktop Sharing

Just like a telephone conversation, check with current participants before inviting others to join. When inviting others into an existing session, let them know who is in the session. This can be done by hovering the mouse over the icon in the taskbar, then clicking on the window. Open the directory where the file is held, then holding down the left mouse, drag the file to the participant’s name. This needs to be done for each recipient. File Transfer
