state song: on the banks of the webash by:paul dresser 'Round my Indiana homesteads wave the cornfields, In the distance loom the woodlands clear and cool. Oftentimes my thoughts revert to scenes of childhood, Where I first received my lessons, nature's school. But one thing there is missing in the picture, Without her face it seems so incomplete. I long to see my mother in the doorway, As she stood there years ago, her boy to greet. [CHORUS] Oh, the moonlight's fair tonight along the Wabash, From the fields there comes the breath of newmown hay. Through the sycamores the candle lights are gleaming, On the banks of the Wabash, far away. Many years have passed since I strolled by the river, Arm in arm, with sweetheart Mary by my side, It was there I tried to tell her that I loved her, It was there I begged of her to be my bride. Long years have passed since I strolled thro' there churchyard. She's sleeping there, my angel, Mary dear, I loved her, but she thought I didn't mean it, Still I'd give my future were she only here.

State govenor Mitchell E. Daniels Jr. was elected as the 49th Governor of the State of Indiana in 2004, in his first bid for any elected office. On his first day in office, Governor Daniels created the first Office of Management and Budget to look for efficiencies and cost savings across state government. In 2005, he led the state to its first balanced budget in eight years and, without a tax increase, transformed the $600 million deficit he inherited into an annual surplus of $370 million within a year.

Major industries or exports Businesses don’t thrive just anywhere. They need a climate that cultivates success and an atmosphere where the pressure from taxes, investment costs and red tape are at their lowest. Indiana has the business environment companies need to grow: a central location; a trained and talented workforce; industry initiatives designed to stimulate growth, innovation and profits; and a quality of life that’s second to none. Because Indiana is located in the Corn Belt, agricultural is the main activity throughout a large portion of the state. Indiana ranks fifth in the country in growing corn for grain. The state is also a leader in the production of soybeans, hay, popcorn, hogs, cattle, calves, milk, and eggs

Major universities and logos Indiana is known for the famous politicians associated with the state. President William Henry Harrison earned his nickname, "Tippecanoe," when he defeated the Indians in the Battle of Tippecanoe in the state. Visit the Benjamin Harrison Memorial Home in Indianapolis. Benjamin Harrison was the grandson of William Henry Harrison. Benjamin Harrison was the only President whose grandfather was also a President.
