Feeling a Little Blue Like Eeyore? Feeling stressed out about school or things going on at home? Worried about a friend? Wishing you had someone to talk to about your worries?...

…Then Open Your Heart to HMS HEART

What is HEART? HEART stands for: Haverford Education Assistance Referral Team HEART is a program developed for students so that they can talk openly about their own feelings and/or share their concerns about a friend or peer with the HEART team. The HEART team is comprised of school counselors, school social workers, teachers, nurses and principals.

HEART TEAM KIM COX KATHY DIAZ BARBARA DWYER ADAM HENRY PETE MAHAR KIM MC FADDEN TONY MIGLIANCO SHEILA MC NABB KIM ALEXANDER ASHLEY GAVIO DEVIN SCHMIDT DEBBIE MCGLONE NATALIE KEENAN JOCELYN DRUCIS RONNA SCHEIER NANCY NAYLOR COLLEEN MALCZYNSKI SUE HOFFMANN

What HEART is NOT: A place to report someone who is unsafe or in immediate crisis If you or a friend are in immediate danger, hand off the problem by TELLING A RESPONSIBLE ADULT IMMEDIATELY!

HEART Is Here For You: If you are in need of speaking with someone about something that concerns you or a friend, you may fill out a HEART referral, or speak directly to your guidance counselor. If needed, your guidance counselor will then pass on your concerns to the HEART team for you.

How to contact a HEART member: A student may make a HEART referral at any time by filling out a pink HEART referral form, which can be obtained from your grade level counselor ’ s office or in a HEART team member ’ s classroom. Students may place HEART referral forms in the HEART box outside of the DEV GU room, 11B or hand it to your grade level guidance counselor. If someone you know is in immediate danger, TELL AN ADULT RIGHT AWAY!

What Concerns Should a Student Share With a HEART Team Member? It is important for students to share their concerns with an adult. Below you will find some examples of things you might refer to the HEART team : 1 If things are going on at home that are affecting your ability, or a friend ’ s ability, to concentrate during school. 2 If you, or a friend, seems sad, anxious, or is not themselves. 3 If you are worried about a friend or family member who is making unhealthy choices, such as experimenting with drugs and/or alcohol.

Our Ears Are Open: Sometimes school and home can place added stress into our lives. When making a HEART referral, please know that your information will be kept confidential (private).

Where Can You Learn More About HEART? Information about HEART is located on the HEART brochures, which can be found in the main and grade level offices, and in the Dev Gu classroom, 11B.

Remember, HEART is here for you. No issue or concern is ever too small.
