What is a fire? Fire is the event of something burning (often destructive). It is the process of combustion of inflammable materials producing heat and light (often) smoke.

When is a fire most likely to occur? This disaster is most likely to occur anytime during the year, especially during the winter because of space heaters and heating that are used throughout the nation to increase the warmth in rooms.

What causes a fire? The causes of accidental fires generally fall into three main categories: Cooking, Smoking, and Electrical. Other causes are forces of nature, playing with matches, burning candles, and hunting with fire.

How can we prevent or be prepared for a fire? Fires can be prevented by installing and maintaining smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and fire extinguishers. Also by keeping stoves and ovens clean and by not letting kids play with stoves or matches. We can be prepared by holding regular fire drills.

How can you keep yourself safe during a fire? We can keep ourselves safe during the disaster by never going back into a burning building for any reason and by calling the fire department from a neighbor’s home. If you are caught in a fire, you should stay low to the ground where the smoke is not heavy.

What are the effects of a fire? One big effect is that people could die in fires. It will affect fuel loads, plant populations, and tree regeneration. It will also cause power outages in the area and destroy houses.

How can we recover from a fire? We can recover from this disaster by going to the Red Cross and asking for help. They can provide you with food, clothing, and shelter.

How does a fire affect the environment? Plants will die and animals will not have homes. People will become homeless with no food and no clothing.
