USING DEFINITE ARTICLES WITH SPECIFIC THINGS UNIDAD 1 ETAPA 2 Español 1

Nouns name people, animals, places and things. All Spanish nouns have masculine or feminine gender. When nouns identify one item they are singular. When nouns identify more than one item they are plural.

In Spanish the Definite Article that accompanies a noun will match its gender and number. Definite ArticleNoun Singularel (the)chico (boy) Plurallos (the)chicos (boys) Singularla (the)chica (girl) Plurallas (the)chicas (girls) matches gender matches number

Ejemplos:  Alma says: ¡Tiene el pelo largo! She has long hair.  Francisco says: ¡A los nuevos amigos! To new friends. Everything matches in gender and number

In your vocabulary list each noun is given with its definite article. The gender of a noun must be learned. nouns ending with –o are masculine. nouns ending with –a are feminine.
