3 The consistency of judgements about grades within schools comes from  following teaching programs based on common syllabuses  using the common grade scale  considering shared samples of student work.  discussions with colleagues

4  Moderation is the process where teachers compare judgements to either confirm or adjust them  The process involves close collaboration to establish a shared understanding of what achievement of an outcome looks like.

5  Single pieces of work are not representative of student’s capabilities  Tasks are too simple  Tasks which do not show what is expected of students  Task instructions which are difficult for students to follow

6  When criteria are discussed and the task has agreed aims and criteria  When criteria are explicit  When sustained work is sought from students  When appropriate tasks are set to meet the student’s capabilities  When teachers are familiar with the program expectations and standards of achievement
