DARPA Network Modeling & Simulation (NMS) Integration Presented to Dr. Sri Kumar (DARPA PM) By Georgia Tech, UCLA, and SSC SD 30 MAY 01

New Capabilities To Be Demonstrated Rapid Validation of Comm Plans –Evaluate effect of insertion of new technology (e.g., substitute new or COTS products for a portion of the network) Rapid adaptive reconfiguration in response to unexpected events –Resource provisioning –Throttling of certain applications Rapid analysis of network capabilities –Network analysis for sensor-to-shooter scenario of interest

New Technology Demonstrated Heterogeneous simulation capability (combine models from different network simulation packages) Distributed simulation capability over a Run-Time Interface (RTI) Fast simulation capability, including use of flow models where appropriate Real-Time measurement capability

NMS Integration Demo 01 Target implementation of simulator in JICF test facility, integrated with SSC SD network testbed –e.g., QualNet and NS tied together over a LAN Backplane Integrate work of other PIs –Flow models: Towsley –Measurement: Claffy

Short Term Plans SPAWAR Systems Center SD: –Collect & sanitize traffic traces from realistic Navy scenarios such as in the Joint Interoperable Communications Facility –Express traffic as a SDF (Simulation Description File) file –Provide model description information to UCLA/Georgia tech UCLA/Georgia Tech: –Develop interfaces from SDF to the heterogeneous simulation capability –Develop relevant models with scalability All –Simulate & validate traffic scenario –Demo potential for scaling-up to evaluate large scale battlefield exercises

DARPA NMS 01 Demo Timeline JUN 01JUL 01 SSC SD GA TECH UCLA Collect Data From JICF Acquire Required H/W & S/W Construct M&S Scenario in SDF AUG 01SEP 01OCT 01 Coordinate to include other PI work (e.g., Claffy, Towsley) Develop interfaces from SDF to heterogeneous sim Interim Sim Op Test (15 AUG) Final 01 demo Develop relevant models with scalability
