“Integration in School and University System” WHO I AM, WHO YOU ARE

What is a disability? It is the consequence of an impairment that may be physical, mental, sensory, emocional or developmental. We are all different

1- Phisycal Disability The reduction or absence of a motor or physical fuction

2- Sensory impairment The visually impaired, deaf and those with problems with communication and language

It means an intellectual functioning notably below the average which exists together with dificiencies in the adaptative behavior. 3- Mental Disability

It’s against the law for a school or other education provider to treat disabled students unfavourably. This includes: 1.‘direct discrimination’ - eg refusing admission to a student because of disability 2.‘indirect discrimination’ - eg only providing application forms in one format that may not be accessible 3.‘discrimination arising from a disability’ - eg a disabled pupil is prevented from going outside at break time because it takes too long to get there 4.‘harassment’ - eg a teacher shouts at a disabled student for not paying attention when the student’s disability stops them from easily concentrating 5.victimisation – eg suspending a disabled student because they’ve complained about harassment Disability rights

Adjustments An education provider has a duty to make ‘reasonable adjustments’ to make sure disabled students are not discriminated against. These changes could include: 1.changes to physical features - for example, creating a ramp so that students can enter a classroom 2.providing extra support and aids (such as specialist teachers or equipment)

SPANISH STATUE LAW 1.Spanish Constitution in article 49/ Stablishes the rights to protect disabled people 2.Disabled People Act 13/1982 LISMI 3. Royal decree 696/ LOGSE/1990 (applied to education and schools)

Valencian Community
