A committee of the following is constituted for inspection of food-grains at FCI godowns before lifting food-grain. 1.The District Education Officer, 2.The Director Health Services 3.The District Food & Supply Officer, 4. Wheat – stored at the premises of Flour Mill for grinding. Atta is distributed to the cooking institute on weekly basis. Rice – stored at stores maintained by Department and is distributed to cooking institutes on weekly basis. Food grains are lifted from the FCI go downs as per requirement on monthly basis.

Food grains are transported from FCI Godown to store Department’s by Big Trucks From store to cooking sites by Mini trucks. Cooked meals are transported to schools by mini trucks. Transportation cost of about Rs. 70, 00,000/- of cooked food is borne by the Chandigarh Administration.

Cooking material like pulses, cereals, vegetables and other ingredients are procured by cooking institutes. Payments to cooking institutes are made fortnightly.

All the HCS/PCS Officers and other Senior Officers of Education Department monitor of MDM activities. School Management Committees, NGOs and four committees consisting of cluster heads monitor the implementation of MDM programme in schools. One Inspector for each kitchen, 20 MDM Supervisors deputed to ensure hygienic delivery of cooked meals in the Schools. Review of the implementation and review of the reports submitted by the officers as also feedback proforma obtained from the students is done at the level of Education Secretary. Teachers also taste the MDM in the class rooms before its distribution.

All the HCS/PCS Officers working in Chandigarh Administration have been involved in the monitoring of MDM activities. Feedback forms. Mechanized transportation. Stainless steel/Aluminium buckets with lids, containers have been provided in schools. Helpers have been engaged in schools for serving the meals and washing the utensils, in the ratio of one helper for every 100 students. Teachers also supervise the distribution of meals. NSS/NCC/SCOUTS & GUIDES from senior classes are also associated in the Mid Day Meal activities like guiding the junior students to pray before taking meals and also serve meals.

● Weekly MDM Menu is displayed in the schools. ● MDM logo is painted on the outer walls of the schools. ● No complaint of social discrimination. ● Most of the Cook-cum-Helpers belong to SC/OBC/Minority communities. ● No complaint regarding the quantity, quality and hygiene of MDM.

Positive Features Sample schools covered: 40 schools ● Hot cooked meal is served daily. ● On the day of visit, 77.42% students of the total present were having MDM. ● Students like Karhi-Rice, Rajmah Rice. ● The students who were bringing food from home stated that they take food when it is of their liking, or sometimes they took Karhi/ Rajmah only. ● Quantity of food received from the kitchens is enough for all. No surplus/ wastage or deficiencies.

Continued…….. There is no social discrimination in serving Mid-Day Meal: In 100% of the schools menu was displayed at the appropriate place. The cooked meals are transported from the centralized kitchen to schools by trucks. As schools are engaged only in distribution of food among the students. Cook-cum-helpers (Ayas) have been engaged in schools for serving the meals and washing the utensils. All the AYAS are females majority of them belonging to SC/OBC/ Minority Communities.

Continued… The availability of water has been confirmed in all the 40 schools. Water coolers with water filters installed in all schools. In 87.5% of the schools, the teachers have been found to be reminding and prompting students to wash their hand before taking food. All the schools have been making deliberate efforts to serve food in an organized way. The MDM scheme has been supervised at the Central and Schools level. There are many high officials involved and assigned with this responsibility.

Implementation of IVRS for MDM MIS through service provider to be empanelled by GOI. Training of Officials Study of MDM Scheme by the third party. Chandigarh Administration has decided to construct 10 Cluster based kitchen sheds. Construction of 7 Cluster based kitchen sheds have been completed. One kitchen shed of GMSSS-10 was started on trial basis. Remaining Six kitchen sheds are also being started shortly.
