IF the root word ends with SILENT E love and the suffix begins with a CONSONANT , K E E P the E ! love + ly = lovely

Oops! Exceptions ! Argue + ment = Argument Awe + ful = awful

Terrible + ly = terribly Shine + ing = shining Nose + y = nosy If Word ends with silent E or l plus silent E AND The suffix begins with a vowel or y Drop the E !!! Terrible + ly = terribly Shine + ing = shining Nose + y = nosy
