What do these words have in common? and but or yet after although as because before how if once since than though until They are CONJUNCTIONS.

CONJUNCTIONS A CONJUNCTION is a word that joins words, phrases, or sentences. Jack and the beanstalk Jack’s mother scolded Jack yet gave him the responsibility to sell the cow. Jack took the cow to town, and he sold it for five beans.

Ever heard of FANBOYS? FANBOYS: for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so FANBOYS are called coordinating conjunctions. They are most commonly used.

Try it: Coordinating Conjunctions - FANBOYS The seven dwarfs worked hard. They whistled while they worked. Snow White took a bite out of the poisoned apple. She didn’t die because of the prince’s kiss. The prince kissed Snow White. She would live.

SUBORDINATING CONJUNCTIONS introduce clauses SUBORDINATING CONJUNCTIONS introduce clauses. They keep the clause from being an independent sentence. Some SUBORDINATING CONJUNCTIONS show time after, as, before, since, until, when, whenever, while

SUBORDINATING CONJUNCTIONS - TIME After the rain stopped, the giant jumped in the puddles. The giant snored when he was sleeping. Since Jack sold the cow, he had magic beans.

CORRELATIVE CONJUNCTION are always seen in pairs. Here are common ones: both…and either…or neither…nor not only…but also whether…or

CORRELATIVE CONJUNTIONS (in pairs) Both Snow White and the dwarves lived in the cottage. Either Snow White or the queen would be the fairest of them all. Not only did the prince kiss Snow White, but also he lived happily ever after.
