First Career Option: Lawyer Why do I want to be a Lawyer? I am interested in law and justice I have good argumentative skills I work well with writing and paperwork I work well under pressure What are a lawyer’s duties? Advise clients on legal matters Negotiate settlements
Working Conditions Typically work in offices, courthouses or law libraries Very long hours Appear before court often Two to three years of undergrad studies training Bachelors Degree from a recognized law school Have to be able to work very well under the pressure of the court
What are the statistics? One third of lawyers are women 47.2% of studying lawyers are women Above average full time salary ($125,758) 60% of jobs in the lower mainland include some kind of law job Large size of occupation (10,165) The job market for lawyers is to increase by 10% by 2020 Approximately 26% of lawyers are self employed in the lower mainland
Employment Outlook/Career Paths Good chance of receiving employment due to lawyers relocating High grades increase chance of employment Recent graduates Recent graduates typically become associate lawyers Experienced lawyers become partners in law firms (19& of equity partners are women, 28% of non equity partners are women)
Second Career Option: Journalist Why do I want to be a Journalist? I love to gain opinion on different topics I am interested in current events and news I have very good writing skills I work well with people in different environments I want to make a difference I want to broadcast my opinion on important matters and minor matters
Main Duties Average job stability, occupation size and salary Collect news nationally and internationally Interview and investigate Must serve as an independent monitor of power Provide a forum for public criticism and compromise Give their untainted opinion on all matters they report Research developments in special fields like medicine, science and technology
Working Conditions/ Training and Qualification Work approximately 35-40 hours a week Works in an office Works at other official events Foreign correspondents work in other countries Need a degree in journalism/communications Proven advanced writing skills

Last Career Option: Teacher Why do I want to be a teacher? I think I am knowledgeable It’s fun to spend the day around children I love to read and write I want to be able to Shape the future

Career Paths Increasing need for University and Post Secondary teachers Recent graduates work as TOCs (Teachers on Call) Slightly more experienced teachers may work as a librarian or counsellor Very experienced teachers work in Secondary Schools and Post Secondary Schools Become principals
To Conclude… There are three excellent jobs I have chosen I have gone in depth to research them With hard work, determination and focus I can become any of these three careers In order to be these three things I have to try my best in everything I do
