Pompeiin Artifacts By Samuel Ulfsson, Jack Cooper, Colin Alexander, and Frank Cognetta.

There were many pieces of art that we found in Pompeii. As shown in the picture, there were many paintings of people together. There were also mosaics, shrines, and more to show that that the people of Pompeii more than valued art- they craved art.

Furniture The people of Pompeii had made furniture out of materials like stone, marble, and sometimes gold and silver. They were able to make tables, chairs, and beds as well as pots, pans, cups, plates, and other things that we use every day.

Water supply was very important to the Pompeiins. When we checked around Pompeii, we saw that there were pipes, made out of led, that were filling the bath houses, villas, and there were also major aqueducts that we had descovered.

The Pompeiins had very productive ways of travel. We had found that the Pompeiins used many horses, as we found chariots. These chariots could also have been used for gladiator fights. Horse drawn chariots were a productive means of travel back then.

Statues The Pompeiins very much valued statues. Many were marble based, though some were made out of more explicit materials. Many athletes, senators, and wealthy men had statues made in their honor.

You see, we found much jewelry on the dead bodies of the citizens of Pompeii. Some of the rings found were strictly made out of gold and silver, while others were decorated with stones like limestone and rocks found on the coastline of the Mediterainan Sea. This tells us that the Pompeiians were very creative and utilized the resources that were available to them.

Armor and weapons We excavators found many pieces of armor when we looked around Pompeii. This armor/weapons was used for many reasons. Gladiator fights were common, so that might have been one reason for this armor and weapons. Another reason was that the Romans back then had a lot of turbulant warfare going on.

There were many pieces of jewelry in Pompeii, and here are some examples of common ones that we excavated when we dug. These are just some common pieces of jewelry in Pompeii that we found, they were found on the dead bodies of the citizens we discovered.

One other thing that my team dug up were lots of stone items. From beds to tables to even houses, there were a lot of stone things that were to be found in Pompeii. This makes me think about how resourceful the Pompeiians were when they found out stone existed, they used a lot of it!

The Pompeiians built a lot of their structures out of pure stone. We had a hard time digging the artifacts up, because they were really heavy. The advantages of having stone stuctures is that they would hardly break, and they were really stable. Above there are more examples of stone structures in Pompeii.

I have discovered many things while I was excavating in Pompeii. From finding neatly crafted jewelry, that was made of many different types of rocks and stones, to finding uniqe stone items.

Many dead bodies were found in the ruins of Pompeii. Some died of the ash the volcano poured out during the eruption, suffocating them. Others died when the pumice / rocks fell from the sky and struck them in the head. However some died a more gruesome death by being burned to death by the scorching winds.

Books and language/tablets The Pompeiins had many books and tablets. In fact, the only way that we know about Vesuvius was that Pliny the Younger wrote a journel entry about what happened in Pompeii! The language speaken there was mostly Greek and Latin, so it was very hard to translate them.

Even though the citizens of Pompeii were covered in ash, their bodies were perfectly preserved. When scientists discovered the bodies, they were able to pour plaster in them. It showed the position the person died in.

Another cause of death my team discovered was the rock falling from the sky. as the citizens were busy worrying about the ash covering them and their city, the rock started to fall, injuring, and killing many citizens.

The skeletons we dug up, we found burn marks and major fractions (Bone fractions.) This was when Vesuvius both a.emmited the cloud which turned into stone, and b.scorched the Pompeiins with burning air

When we found the artifacts of Pompeii, we saw that the people who lived there had many pieces of art related to the Greek gods. The Romans decided to turn the Greek names into Roman names, and this is where many planetary names comes from, (Jupiter, Mars, etc.) Many temples, shrines, and buildings were made in honor of these gods, and the people would often make sacrifices to these gods.

We also found one or two houses completly buried in ash. This is what one of the houses would look like in 78 AD (look above). Many of the houses had shops in front.
