School for Parents: Parents Meetings in a Bar APITSD Bulgaria, November 2015

History  School Year *:  Pernod-Ricard Bulgaria opened the program by a press- conference and 3 workshops in Sofia  School Year :  Pernod-Ricard Bulgaria carried out 13 meetings in bars (Sofia only, with 22 teachers, 4 psychologists and over 200 parents involved.)  Supporting materials  Teacher's guide and Parents handbooks: “Small Talks on Big Themes”  – a website for general information and advices on the issue, meetings schedule and other  Quantitative evaluation report was issued in July 2015 *School Year – September-May

Objectives  Initiate the dialogue about underage drinking by minors with more and more parents of YO and give them keys to talk to their kids and not stay passive  Involve the adults – teachers and parents, who have a guiding role to YO minors in one conversation about the risks of underage drinking and its prevention  Initiate institutional cooperation to help Bulgarian school authorities in creating integrated and harmonized procedures to address the matter

Target Group(s)  Primary:  Parents of 10-12YO children, contacts appr  Secondary:  Teachers of 10-12YO children, contacts appr  Tertiary:  Institutions, responsible for children and their health

Campaign Execution vs Objective 1  Campaign:  25 parents meetings organised by APITSD for school year * in 5 cities of Bulgaria:  Sofia  Bourgas  Varna  Plovdiv  Vratsa  15 parent meetings organized by teachers themselves  The first meeting is planned for w/c Oct 26, 2015 *School Year – September-May

Campaign Execution vs Objective 2  Campaign:  5 training seminars for teachers and school phycologists are to happen between Oct 2015 and Mar 2016  Training is provided in 4 hours and includes:  Methodology for a parent meeting in a bar  Scenario for a parent meeting in a bar  Frequently asked questions  Role games, discussions and examples  Supporting video  Presentation of the on-line platform

The online platform  :  Section for teachers to download all the materials needed for a parent meeting  Section for parents to draw information regarding underage drinking and its prevention  Menus: The campaign, Partners, Friends, Calendar  Menus: Advices, News, Talk with a Phycologist  Forum to discuss different topics about underage drinking and harms to minors’ health

Campaign Execution vs Objective No 3  Ensured institutional support by Bulgarian  Ministry of Education and Science  Regional Education Inspectorates (5 cities)  Institution for enrollment of Ministry ordinances to Bulgarian schools all over the country  Bulgarian Agency for Child Protection  A governmental organization, which develops and monitors the implementation of national and regional programs for child protection at national level  The National Network for Children  An alliance of NGO organizations and supporters, working with and for children and families across the whole country.  Sustainability of the program requires to begin its own life in the hands of Bulgarian teachers and in the Bulgarian school in 1 to 2 school years

Evaluation  Aims to measure:  General awareness of underage drinking and its prevention  Awareness and impact of Parent meetings in a bar program among parents  Awareness and impact of Parent meetings in a bar program among teachers  Behavior change of family and school  Timing:  Baseline is established by questionnaires at each meeting  Focus groups discussions are planned for June-July 2016, so they are comparable with results from June-July 2015  Final report will be available in August 2016

Evaluation  Evaluation approach:  Outcome and impact-based evaluation to measure awareness, look beyond immediate effect and identify longer-term behavior change, as well as any unintended or unanticipated outcomes.  Target group(s) for evaluation:  Parents of YO minors, their teachers and school phycologists  Sample size: people
