Bell Ringer 3 Minutes  Can we maintain your own culture in a society that is ever changing? Explain your answer citing evidence from history

Homework  Continue working on Cornell Notes chapter 17 pages (5 headings) due Monday February 3, 2014  Due today,write a GIST statement that summarizes in a sentence what the impact of Wounded Knee was on the environment of the Native Americans.

Aim  I will be able to analyze primary resources on the establishment of Indian Schools on the United States.

CHAMPS  C=conversation, we will be sharing out during group discussion, be RESPECTFUL do not speak over one another and be an active listener. IN groups you are discussing the assignment not your social life  H=help, please raise your hand  A=activity, reading, listening, annotating and discussing the reading.  M=movement, we are staying as small groups.  P=participation means no heads down, no cell phones, we are reading and writing.

Word Study 2 Minutes  Americanization  Assimilation

Annotating the Text 20 Minutes  Read to yourself for 20 minutes.  As you read highlight phrases and sentences that you find grab your attention, use an exclamation mark for items that you find exciting !, ? For items that you have a question about and then right your thought in the margin.  You are actively reading and interacting with the text.

Save the Last Word 18 minutes (cooperative learning groups)  Now share out with your group ONE at a time and share on phrase that you highlighted and explain why that stood out to you, each person will speak for ONE MINUTE  After the person sharing out is done the group has 3 minutes to comment on the speakers comments or the text it’s self.  Repeat the process till all group members have gone.

Exit Ticket 5 Minutes  Reflecting on today’s learning; compare your ideas and thoughts with that of your cooperative learning group. Citing evidence from your text
