Independent Book Review Due in May Worth a project grade

Assignment Description  You will be presenting a book you have read or one you are currently reading to the class.  The purpose of this is to persuade your classmates to add this book to their summer reading lists.  Your presentation will include two parts: an advertising poster and an oral presentation.

Choosing a book  The book should be one that will appeal to lots of people in class.  You should have already read enough of the book to make a strong recommendation (most likely at least half of the book).  You will sign up for the book starting Tuesday, and I would like for everyone to present a different book.  I encourage you to select a genre missing from your blue sheet and/or to pick a classic or lesser-known book.

Advertising Poster  The poster should be neat, visually appealing and on standard-sized paper  The poster should have the following information prominently displayed: The book title The author’s name Your name An advertising slogan (we will review these techniques in class) Sources for any pictures used DO NOT copy the existing book cover from the internet

Oral Presentation  You should create notecards to guide you in presenting information to the class.  These presentations will begin in May, and you must be ready on your assigned day.  Your presentation should include: A “hook” first sentence to grab the audience’s attention The book title and author The genre of the book A brief description of the main character A brief description of the setting A persuasive statement of why the book is great, including at least three reasons why everyone should read the book
