ARRA COACHING POLICY 2011

Coaching Philosophy Provide coaching to referees to attain and maintain the highest level of performance and enjoyment possible. Provide coaching that is consistent with referee coaching education nationally Operate within agreed game issues; processes and focus areas

Personal Coach Allocation Priority of personal referee coaches is: –Representative referees –Academy referees –Referees nominated by Selectors –Premier Referees –Other referees

Coach Qualifications Representative & Academy referees –Level 1 accredited or higher –Understanding of 5 performance pillars –Game plan and game review process All coaches –Passed Level 1 law exam or higher annually –RIMMS training

Coaching Structure Head Panel Coaches Pool coaches Personal coaches Pool Coaches Across panels Within panel Selectors are also pool coaches and personal coaches Referee Manager is a pool coach

Coaching Structure Head Selector 2 x Selectors

Head Panel Coach Coordinates sightings by individual coaches and personal coaches All referees in panel are viewed at least twice Individual coaches view referees requested by Selectors Coordinates with other Head Panel Coaches sighting of prospective referees Ensure Selectors are aware of referees identified for promotional sighting Facilitates Monday panel discussions sessions

Coaching Operation All coaches assist viewing all referees in panel Reports on RIMMS – no hand written reports (get someone to enter) Personal coaches should not be writing more than 3-4 reports on their charge Attend Monday evening panel discussions Panel discussions may take any format –Practical in the shed –Discussion in hall Attend referee coach meetings Each HPC with Selectors and coaches decide on top 3 referees in panel at end of season

Performance Sighting When a referee is considered ready for a sighting: –Coach and Head Panel Coach coordinate with Head Coach to arrange a sighting –Head Coach arranges with Head Selector Selector and/or Head Panel Coach from next panel view referee –Report goes to referee –Sensitive issues communicated to personal coach. If no coach then to Head Panel Coach –Referee informed of outcome by HPC or coach
