Unit Six

Seminar Outline  Teen Violence  Determining the Primary Abuser  Unit Six Assignments  APA Tutorial  Happy Thought

Teen Violence  Individual Factors  Family Factors  Protective Factors

How do we determine the primary aggressor?

Consider  Prior complaints of domestic violence  Relative severity of injuries of each person  Likelihood of future injury to each person  Whether one acted in self-defense  Statements from both parties and witnesses

Assignments  Read Chapters Six and Ten  Discussion Topic: What is your reaction to the incidence of female perpetrators of physical dating violence?  Assignment Describe the characteristics of abusers and analyze the role substance abuse plays in domestic violence. Detailed information, examples, case studies, etc.

Citation vs. Reference  Citations are included in the body of your paper anywhere you include information from an outside source.  References are included in a list at the end of your paper and include more details than the in-text citation so readers can locate the source themselves.  Citations and reference page should match.

Citing in APA format  (Author last name, year of publication)  (Organization name, year of publication)  (“Shortened title,” year of publication)  If no date, use n.d.  If you reference the author in the sentence, just include the year of publication in parentheses right after the name.

Reference list in APA format  Books: Author, A. A. (year). Title of book. City, State: Publisher.  Journals: Author, A. (year). Title of article. Journal Title, volume(issue), pages. Retrieved from URL.

References continued  Web page with author: Author, A. A. (year). Title of page. Retrieved from URL.  Web page without author: Title of page. (year). Retrieved from URL.  Government Website: Name of Agency. (year). Title of publication. Retrieved from URL.

APA Notes  Use a 12-point Times New Roman font throughout  Double-space throughout  List sources with hanging indent in alphabetical order  Type the word References centered at the top of the page
