Presentation of a candidate JANEZ In 1994, Janez acquired the education qualification title “waiter”. In order to be assigned to a new post, he must complete the education programme (Fifth level) in the field of accommodation and food service. He wishes to continue his education in the field of vocational and technical education – in the programme gastronomy (technician of gastronomy). He applies for the recognition of previously acquired knowledge and skills obtained in formal and non-formal learning.

The application submitted by Janez After having examined the documents demonstrating knowledge and skills obtained through non-formal learning and on the basis of a sound understanding of the catalogues of knowledge and skills for the professional modules in technical and vocational education and training - in the programme of gastronomy, the counsellor advises Janez to complete the self-evaluation questionnaire for the professional module M8 Culinary arts and wines in Slovenia. The questionnaire enables both, the counsellor and the candidate, to find out whether the candidate’s competences, knowledge and skills are appropriate and in line with the criteria, as indicated in the catalogue. - An overview of competences, knowledge and skills, summarized from the catalogue of knowledge and skills for the professional module M8: Culinary arts and wines in Slovenia. Steps in the procedure leading to the recognition: 3. The commission examines the application submitted by the candidate and evaluates his knowledge and skills. The commission evaluates the candidate’s knowledge and skills. If necessary, a test is carried out. If necessary, the commission holds an interview with the candidate. The commission issues a decision about the recognition or non-recognition of non-formal learning (either in whole or in part).

The application submitted by Janez is examined by the Commission. In his application for the recognition of non-formal learning within the module M8 “Culinary arts and wines in Slovenia and in the world”, Janez submitted the following supporting documents: 1. Sommelier diploma; 2. Diploma issued after the successful completion of the examination for the Food & Beverage manager; 3. Sommelier diploma(2nd degree); 4. Certificate which proves a successful completion of the skill test for the wine tasters, in the field of organoleptical assessment of wine, must and other grape and wine products; 5. Completion of training for wine tasters in the field of organoleptical assessment of wine, must and other grape and wine products; 6. Participation in the seminar entitled Johnnie Walker Mentorship or the acquisition of the title whiskey Johnnie Walker expert; 7. Confirmation which proves a successful completion of the education and training programme for the employees in the field of food hygiene; 8. Confirmation of the employment and confirmation of work experience.

The commission evaluates whether the supporting documents provided by Janez are appropriate; the following criteria and measures are taken into account: 1. authenticity 2. up-to-dateness up-to-date appropriate less appropriate 3. relevance / suitability high appropriate low Evaluation of documents submitted by Janez

The commission evaluates the knowledge and skills acquired through non-formal learning, as demonstrated in the supporting documents submitted by Janez. 1.The commission acquired the information – the data about the programme for:the data about the programme a) Training for a sommelier I and II (The training is in compliance with the standards of professional knowledge and skills for the national vocational qualification of the sommelier). b) Training for a Food and beverage manager. 2.The knowledge and skills acquired by Janez through non-formal learning are evaluated by the commission according to the standards of knowledge and skills required for the professional module M8: Culinary arts and wines in Slovenia and in the world. FOR YOUR INFORMATION - The procedure leading towards the recognition, which has been presented above, is only a working draft of the recognition model and has not been carried out completely. This is due to the fact that the candidate resigned because he found a new employment.
