Objective: What are the functions of the different organelles within cells?

 Take the page and divide it into 6 equal boxes  Number the boxes Notes: Eukaryotic Cells

 Cell membrane: regulates what enters and leaves  Genetic material: DNA Ribosomes: makes proteins  Cytoplasm: liquid part of the cell

 Complex, highly organized cells  Have a nucleus  Have membrane bound organelles = tiny cell organs with jobs  Examples: plants and animal cells

Have the following organelles: Lysosomes: filled with enzymes that clean up the cell Vesicles: sacs that transport

Have the following organelles: Cell Wall: rigid structure that surrounds cell membrane and provides addition support and protection Chloroplast: uses sunlight to make sugar Large Central Vacuole: stores water, materials and wastes

 Cells specialize to perform different tasks  Have all the same DNA  Express different DNA

Instructions: - Write a 3-4 sentence summarize what you new things you learned today - Number and highlight each period - Be specific!!! (Example: “I learned about cells” is not specific, what did you learn about cells?)
