FFA History ● The Smith Hughes National Vocational Educational Act establishes agriculture courses. ● Future Farmers of Virginia was organized for boys in Ag. Courses. ● Future Farmers of America formed by 33 students from 18 different states. ● California was the 4 th state to be chartered.

FFA History ● The official colors (National Blue and Corn Gold) are adopted. ● Membership is restricted to boys only. ● The creed was written by E.M Tiffany and adopted by the FFA. ● The blue corduroy jacket and uniform was adopted.

FFA History ● New Farmers of America, an organization of African- American boys interested in Agriculture was formed. ● National FFA Foundation was formed. Today, the foundation raised over 7.3 million dollars. ● National FFA Band was formed ● First International Exchange Program for FFA members

FFA History ● The national Future Farmer magazine was first published. ● President Eisenhower visits at the national FFA Convention. The U.S. Post Office issues a special stamp to commemorate the founding of the FFA. ● 1955-FFA went international with organizations forming in Japan, Brazil, Columbia, Korea, Mexico, Panama, Philippines and Thailand. ● The FFA headquarters was established on land that was originally part of George Washington's Estate.

FFA History ● New Farmers of America merges with the FFA, adding 50,000 members. ● Women are allowed national membership, which allowed them to hold office and compete in events. ● The national FFA Alumni Association was established ● First world conference in Agriculture Education was held

FFA History ● Delegates at the National FFA Convention changed “Future Farmers of America” to the “National FFA Organization”. ● The name of the offical FFA magazine is changed to FFA New Horizons. ● President George Bush addresses the 64 th National FFA Conference. ● Celebrate the 75 th national FFA Convention ● Opening of the California FFA Center in Galt.

FFA Emblem ● The emblem was created and developed with much thought and meaning. ● Made up of five symbols. ● Cross section of corn ● Rising sun ● Plow ● Owl ● Eagle

Cross Section of Corn ● Represents our common agricultural interests, is native to America, and is grown in every state.

The Eagle ● This is symbolic of freedom and the national scope of the FFA.

Rising Sun ● Symbolizes progress in agriculture ● a new era, a new day, a new beginning

The Plow ● Symbol of labor and tillage of the soil.

The Owl ● Symbolizes wisdom and knowledge.

The Lettering ● The words “Agricultural Education“ surround the letters “FFA.” This tells us that FFA is an important part of agriculture programs.

The Motto Learning to do, Doing to learn, Earning to live, Living to serve.
