In the Light of Self Development Victor Kannan Art of Communication In the Light of Self Development Victor Kannan This is a vast subject. Speaking, interacting, listening, writing, body language, emotional expressions are all part of communication

Learning modern day tools to communicate with the new generation is very important. Many parents are unable to be present in a conversation or begin a conversation due to lack of familiarity and even developing contempt for modern tools.. That would be a non starter

Paradigm Changes Changing Times Changing Mindset Changing sensitivity to words and its meaning Continuous evolution of consciousness Communication is a dynamic thing. One has to constantly learn how to communicate effectively, precisely .. So be aware of

One has to learn constantly & PRACTICE TOO

Importance of Language Communication requires conversion of thoughts to a language Master the language Learn words Localize Body Language It is said that the one who has a command over vocabulary would be able to communicate effectively.

AVOID DISCONNECTING LANGUAGE MORALISTIC JUDGMENT- good, bad, right, wrong LABELS BLAME - implying fault NO CHOICE - ‘can’t’ ‘must’ ‘have to’ DEMAND - open or hidden threat IMPOSING MY JUDGMENT - ‘should’ ‘ought’ AVOID THESE.

Improving Speaking English Reading newspapers  Watching English movies Writing down new words and understanding its usage Paying attention to sentence construction Learning 5 new words and its usage a day will drastically improve one's language Many ask how to improve speaking in English… No difference. One has to learn, practice and gain confidence. It is no magic

Non Verbal Communication Dress neatly Smell right Be Punctual Shows you care Prepare for the audience Have a good knowledge of the subject

Dark Shadow My mother, a meticulous housekeeper, often lectured my father about tracking dirt into the house. One day he came in to find her furiously scrubbing away at a spot on the floor and launching into a lecture. "I don’t know what you’ve brought in," she said, "but I can’t seem to get this out." He studied the situation for a moment and, without a word, moved a figurine on the window-sill where the sun was streaming in. The spot immediately disappeared. So don’t react. Observe. Listen. Solutions are simpler if we observe the problems

Farm and Family A man and his wife were taking an afternoon drive through the countryside. They had just had a big argument and were not talking to one another. Finally the husband decided to break the silence and say something sarcastic to his wife: “Look at all the cows and pigs in the pasture. Don’t they remind you of your relatives?” The wife replied, “Yes, they do. They remind me of my in-laws.” Give respect. What goes around comes around.

Five Simple Lessons To Improve your communication skills IF YOU WANT TO IMPROVE COMMUNICATION SKILL YOU MUST LEARN HOW TO

Lesson 1 - Be Positive & Precise Tell people what you want done and NOT what you don't want done, what you like NOT what you don't like. To draw attention, you must be brief, precise and may confirm once. Identify monotony, monologue and over communication. Avoid them as it will lead to blunting the listener's attention. As a matter of example of finer things, yes occasionally you may draw one's attention to "what is not" to emphasize "what is”.

Lesson 2 – Observe Ask a friend to record your conversation with people and listen to its playback and improve. Observe your reaction to your parents, children, siblings and spouses and see if you behave the exactly same manner as your dislike of those dear ones.

Lesson 3 – Teach yourself Listen to great speeches and learn what and how the speaker speaks and holds the attention of the audience. You will normally find them in short speeches like Ted, Presidential speeches and commemoration addresses. Join Toast Masters International.

Lesson 4 – Listen Well Intonation, pauses, acknowledgements are all part of listening. A great listener alone can be a great communicator. Create opportunity to interact with open ended questions Avoid antagonism & argumentation

Lesson 5 - Prepare Mind body language Smile, Eye contact Be organized! Tell jokes and stories Have pictures, quotes and charts Be Precise with time and the message.

Lesson 6 – Finally Use your heart Using the heart does not mean emotional Be Caring and Concerned Be Sincere and Humble Leave the audience with a nice feeling
