Dr. Martin Luther king jr. Day MLK Day is an national American holiday marking the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther king Jr., the chief spokesman for nonviolent activism in the Civil Rights Movement. It is observed on the third Monday of January each year, which is around King’s birthday, January 15th. The campaign for a federal holiday in King’s honor began soon after his assassination in1968. President Ronald Reagan signed the holiday into law in 1983, and it was first observed three years later.

President’s day vs. independence day President’s Day is an American holiday celebrated on the third Monday in February. Originally established in 1855 in recognition of President George Washington, it is still officially called “Washington’s Birthday” by the federal government. Like Independence Day, President’s Day is traditionally viewed as a time of patriotic celebration and remembrance. Independence Day is a federal holiday commemorating the adoption of the Deceleration of Independence on July 4, 1776. The Continental Congress declared that the 13 American colonies regarded themselves as a new nation, the United States of America.

Thanksgiving Day Visit http://www.history.com/topics/thanksgiving Thanksgiving Day is a national holiday celebrated primarily in Canada and the United States as a day of giving thanks for the blessing of the harvest and of the preceding year. It is celebrated on the second Monday of October in Canada and on the fourth Thursday of November in the United States. Several other places around the world observe similar celebrations. Thanksgiving has its historical roots in religious and cultural traditions and has long been celebrated in a secular manner as well. Visit http://www.history.com/topics/thanksgiving for facts, origin, pictures & videos all about Thanksgiving Day.

memorial Day vs. veteran’s day Memorial Day is a federal holiday in the United States for remembering the people who died while serving in the country's armed forces. The holiday, which is observed every year on the last Monday of May, originated as Decoration Day after the American Civil War in 1868. It was established as a time for the nation to decorate the graves of the war dead with flowers. Memorial Day eventually extended to honor all Americans who died while in the military service. It typically marks the start of the summer vacation season, while Labor Day marks its end. Veterans Day is a federal holiday that is observed on November 11, honoring people who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces, also known as veterans. Veterans Day is not to be confused with Memorial Day; Veterans Day celebrates the service of all U.S. military veterans, while Memorial Day is a day of remembering the men and women who gave their lives and those who perished while in service.

Columbus day Many countries celebrate the anniversary of Christopher Columbus' arrival in the Central America , which happened on October 12, 1492. The landing is celebrated as Columbus Day in the United States, The holiday has been celebrated unofficially since the late 18th century and officially in various areas since the early 20th century. Visit http://www.timeanddate.com/holidays/us/columbus-day to learn about the different countries that celebrate Columbus day.
