Presentation transcript:

triple beam balance A scale used to measure mass in grams

beaker a glass, flat bottomed container used in science labs.

graduated cylinder A cylinder shaped container used in science to measure volume of liquids.

solid A state of matter where molecules are packed closely together.Ice

liquid Matter where molecules are packed loosely and move around freely.

gas Matter with molecules that are very far apart. (vapor and steam)

density Mass combined with the volume of an object. You can see how dense liquids are by how they float.

solubility the ability of something to be dissolved in water.

mass How much matter is in an object. Measured in grams. You can see mass.

mixture A combination of ingredients that can be easily separated. (salad or trail mix)

solution A mixture of ingredients that is not easily separated. Kool-aid Salt water

Boiling point 100 degrees Celisus

Freezing point Water is 0 degrees celsius

solvent Is the ingredient in a solution that is in the largest amount. (water in saltwater or kool-aid)

solute The ingredient in a solution that is in the smallest amount. (salt in saltwater)

valid Means that something is true or correct.

retain To keep or hold. Soil retains water.

conclusion The statement telling the results or what you learned in a science experiment.

hypothesis Your educated guess about what will happen in an experiment. ?

variable In an experiment is what you will change or test.

Physical properties The observable qualities of matter such as color, state, magnetism and density.
