The Manna as a Type of Christ John 6:31-35 Bread From Heaven The Manna as a Type of Christ John 6:31-35

Manna (Heb. man hu) = What is it? Exodus 16:15 Small round flake like frost, white, like coriander seed, wafer, tasted like honey or oil, melted away, spoiled, color of bdellium (16:14,20,21,24,31; Num. 11:6-9) One omer per person per day (16:16,18,36 = 6 ½ pints or ¾ gallon) Kept as a memorial (16:34; Heb. 9:4; see 1 Kings 8:9) Lasted until Canaan land (16:35; Josh 5:12)

Manna (Heb. man hu) = What is it? Exodus 16:15 Israel was taught to remember the Lord for his gracious gifts (Deut. 8:3,16; Psa. 78:24-25; 105:40) Jesus referred to the manna as a type of himself (Jn. 6:31-35) Paul used Exodus 16 to teach a lesson in unfaithfulness (1 Cor. 10:3), and a lesson in giving (2 Cor. 8:15) John referenced the manna as a reward for the faithful in heaven (Rev. 2:17)

Miraculous Manna Bread from Heaven, Not from Earth How Do We Know the Manna Was a Miracle? 1. The enormous volume of manna produced and consumed each day. 2. The manna was provided the year round for forty years. 3. The manna appeared on a particular day; found for six days but not on the seventh. 4. The manna spoiled after each day except the sixth day. 5. The manna could by boiled in cooking, but melted in the sun.

The Manna As A Type of Christ Exodus 16 Specific need (vv.1-3) Gift from heaven (v.4) Conditions (v.4) Test (v. 4) Daily (v.5) Teach (vv.6,7,12,32) Silenced (vv.7,8,12) For all (v.9) Miraculous gift (v.14) Not recognized (v.15) Eat to live (v.15) Punishment (v.20,27) Without fail (v.35) John 6 Specific need (6:27,35,68) Gift from heaven (6:38) Conditions (6:35,65) Test (6:64,64,66) Daily (v.56,63) Teach (6:45) Silenced (6:41,43,61) For all (6:33,37,40,51) Miraculous gift (v.62) Not recognized (6:42) Eat to live (6:50-58,63) Punishment (6:53) Without fail (6:39,40,44)

Lessons Learned Do we grow weary of our bread from heaven (Num. 11:6-9)? Do we humbly rely upon God’s word daily (Deut. 8:3-4,16; Mt. 4:4)? Do we rebel while being fed by the Lord (Neh. 9:20; Psa. 78:24-25)? Do we live faithfully to receive the manna in heaven (Rev. 2:17)
