Q.4 Model answer Dr. Bauman (2013) suggests that teenage drivers may be influenced by pressure from friends. A Temple University study found that teenagers playing a computer driving game were more likely to take risks when they thought that same-sex friends were watching them, explaining why more accidents are caused by teenagers than other age groups.

Teachers have little difficulty detecting plagiarism, especially when students are non-native speakers. Here are some characteristics of plagiarized vs. original texts. Detecting Plagiarism

Some common signs of student plagiarism Information presumably not in possession of student author Language level beyond student’s expected ability (vocabulary, sentence structure, rhetorical moves) Problems with cohesion and/or coherence (confusing pronoun reference, inexplicable gaps in presentation of information, erroneous assumption of presupposed knowledge)

Signs of student originality Language errors appropriate to level Simple sentence structure Appropriate acknowledgement of sources Simple but cohesive and coherent paragraphs

TO DO TO BE DOING TO HAVE DONE SIMPLE PROGRESSIVE PERFECT TO BE DONEPASSIVE

Turn to p43

1 Sentence 1 refers to the present (habit) and sentence 2 refers to the past. 2 Sentence 1 refers to the present (in progress) and sentence 2 refers to the past. 3 Sentence 1 refers to the present (habit) and sentence 2 refers to the past. 4 Sentence 1 is active and sentence 2 is passive; both use present perfect. 1 to be protecting 2 be given 3 to have learned 4 be needed 5 to be missing out 6 to have enjoyed
