THE PTERANODON The Pteranodon is a flying reptile. The Pteranodon is pronounced Teh-RAN-uh-DON meaning “Winged and Toothless”. This prehistoric animal is not considered as a bird or a dinosaur, but as a flying reptile known as Pterosaurs. The Pteranodon had the appearance of a giant pelican. It measured 6 feet tall, 6 feet long, and had a very large wingspan of 24 feet wide. A crest at the back of the skull may have helped balance the long jaws and beak.
When did it live? The Pteranodon lived in the late Cretaceous period, about 75-85 million years ago Where did it live? The Pteranodon fossils have been found in Kansas, USA, North America and in England, Europe
PTERANODON’s DIET The Pteranodon Ate foods such as : Fish Mollusks Crabs Insects And also scavenged food
Defence from predators The Pteranodon had protruding claws which could be used to fight off predators but its main Defence is its ability to fly.
