What does my child do in TD?  The purpose of Talent Development is to supplement the regular curriculum through challenging extension activities. Please see the DEP link for specifics.  I meet weekly with teachers to collaborate and plan differentiated instruction. Some is delivered by me and some is delivered by the classroom teacher.  My website is updated weekly.   It is designed both to keep parents informed of what their children are doing, as well as to remind students. Additionally, they are asked to record assignments in their agendas.

How does TD impact my child’s education?  Projects are extensions of current IB units.  Gifted students need to be provided with opportunities to practice The Four C's of the Common Core: collaborate, communicate, creativity, critical thinking.  All activities are created with that in mind.

How is my child doing?  I am glad to meet with parents individually, sit in on conferences, or discuss progress through phone calls or .  TD students receive an annual end of year performance review.

What happens in TD at the middle school level?  Each middle school receives support from a full-time Academic Facilitator who works with students and teachers to develop rigorous, accelerated, complex curriculum and appropriate instructional practices. High performing middle school students are evaluated annually for instructional placement in Honors or Standard Plus language arts and math courses. Students identified as academically and intellectually gifted are grouped in classes or clusters for instruction in those courses.  Randolph Contact:

Is anything new or different this year?  This year, even more collaboration will occur between classroom teachers and me. We plan to provide TD versions of the same projects their classmates are doing.  We are on I will tweet reminders, repost good educational articles, and ask for volunteers/ materials needed. Students will also be tweeting from this site.  All 4 th and 5 th Grade TD Certified students will have the opportunity to participate in Math Olympiad.

Example of Collaboration  Current 5 th Grade Salad Bowl Project  The United States is often thought of as a salad bowl. This can be observed with the earliest explorers of North America. For this project you will:  Directions:  Choose 5 of these explorers (Christopher Columbus, John Cabot, Juan Ponce de Leon, Henan Cortes, Jacques Cartier, Francisco Vasquez, Henry Hudson, Robert de La Salle)  Assign each one an ingredient of the salad.  On the front of the ingredient:  Name of Explorer  Country of origin  Date of exploration  Where (area, country) they explored  List at least 2 contributions they made to North America

The comic should include biographical information about the explorer.  Partner with another student. You each will choose an explorer that you feel was the most influential. Prepare your arguments and hold a debate.  Partner with another student. Create a list of 10 interview questions and responses to those questions. Present your interview. Bonus: One of you may choose to dress as the explorer and the other as an interviewer wearing an outfit appropriate for the time.
