Andrew Brandt FPD Rio Workshop Mar  All 6 castles with 18 Roman pots comprising the FPD were constructed in Brazil, installed in the Tevatron in fall of 2000, and have been functioning as designed (a vacuum leak was repaired 1+ years ago)  All castles were checked and underwent maintenance during Fall 2003 shutdown A1 Quadrupole castle installed in the beam line. Andrew Brandt FPD Rio Workshop Mar  In , 10 of the 18 Roman pots were instrumented with detectors.  Funds to add detectors to the remainder of the pots was obtained from NSF (mostly for MAPMTs)  During the fall 2003 shutdown the final eight detectors and associated readout electronics were installed. Dark current was verified with detectors in place.  Shielding was installed because of high rates seen before shutdown  Low Voltage Power Supplies were upgraded, installed and tested under full load A2 Quadrupole castle with all four detectors installed Detector Status

Andrew Brandt FPD Rio Workshop Mar Resolution of TPP Noise Problem  Transition Patch Panel is used to interface between ribbon cable carrying signal from the tunnel and flex cable for the AFE  Before Shutdown, we saw rms values near 20 (4 or 5 is typical for AFE board) traced to a capacitive coupling on the board  Redesigned and replaced all (18) boards during the fall 2003 shutdown  After shutdown, rms values are near 4 or 5  This issue delayed integration and diverted manpower, but it’s successful resolution allows us to proceed towards integrated physics

Andrew Brandt FPD Rio Workshop Mar Fermilab+Operations  Partially due to new funding initiative of Brazilian/Columbian visitors, we have dramatically increased Fermi presence, from low point of Mike, Tamsin, and Daniel, to now include Ana, Helena, Renata, Luis, Roman with Luiz Mundim to go out for one year (Lum), many trips just concluded and others to begin soon.  Mike will describe operations, highlights include 18 pots routinely inserted once/day, and very little to do during accesses
