RRA Summary 1.Policy, Legislation, Regulation and Capacity Building to support RE Development: Both Kiribati and RMI wants to establish a National Energy Coordinating Committee. Kiribati, RMI and Vanuatu wants their existing policies and legislations reviewed. 2.RE for Rural electrification, only country specific recommendations 3.Grid Integration of Renewables – Kiribati, RMI and Vanuatu wants to have a grid stability study carried out. RMI has completed this study and was carried out by Japan. 4.Grid Connected RE (Solar, Wind, Geothermal, Hydro): Fiji and Vanuatu have the potential to develop geothermal. Kiribati, RMI and Vanuatu recommends appropriate standards and guidelines, technical capacity building and training on grid connected PV; RMI & Vanuatu recommends financing schemes and participation for privately owned systems. 5.Coconut Oil for Power Generation and Transport: RMI wants to explore Coconut Oil to be used for power generation. Kiribati wants to explore CNO for both power generation and transport. 9

EXPECTED RESULTS Effective implementation of RE roadmaps in the four countries, Clear and effective policies and legislations, Enhanced capacity to plan, design and deploy RE. Stimulate interest and increase investment in RE Increased RE share in electricity mix Streamlined donor support in RE deployment Overall result would be achieving the national RE targets 10

CONCLUSIONS & WAY FORWARD Having approved by Minister, RRA is a guiding document for the government Identifies concrete steps to improve enabling framework to promote RE deployment Implementation of RRA recommendations need to be led by the government And supported by IRENA and regional and development partners 11
