Geography Local Area/ Maps Use simple fieldwork and observational skills to study the geography of their school and its grounds and the key human and physical features of its surrounding environment. Ask relevant questions to extend their understanding and knowledge. 3. Maintain attention and participate in conversations, staying on topic and initiating and responding to comments. Reading: 1. Apply phonic knowledge and skills as the route to decode words. 2. Respond speedily with the correct sound to graphemes for all 40+ phonemes. 3. Listen to and discuss a wide range of stories and non-fiction at a level beyond that at which they can read independently. 4. Read accurately by blending sounds in unfamiliar words containing GPCs that have been taught. 5. Read common exception words, noting unusual correspondences between spelling and sound and where these occur in the word 7. Discuss word meanings, linking new meanings to those already known 8. Participate in discussion, taking turns and listening to others 9. Explain clearly their understanding of what is read to them. Writing transcription: Spelling 1. We will be listening to and reading a range of stories and information books about animals and our local area.
