Henry’s freedom Box Retold by Isaiah Johnson

Henry Brown wasn’t sure how old he was. He was a slave and slaves weren’t aloud to know their age. His mother was afraid he would be taken away from her.

Henry’s master was ill so he gave Henry to his son because Henry was a good worker.

Henry was a man now and one day outside he met Nancy and fell in love with her and hummed all the way home.

Many months later Nancy and Henry were married and had 3 children. But they were taken away from him.

Henry shipped himself to Ohio where he was free to do what ever he wanted to as long as it’s in the law. Henry finally had a birthday.
