The Culture of North America The United States and Canada

Values Values- principals and ideas by which people live. In the US we care about individual freedoms, equal opportunity, education and so much more!

Common Elements of Society Include Government Language Religion

What is culture? the customary beliefs, social forms, and material traits of a racial, religious, or social group

When cultures cross Multiculturalism- communities with multiple cultures. We also call this cultural diversity

Multiculturalism An example of Multiculturalism in Canada is the fact many people are Bilingual. We can also see this in the various religions that are in Canada

Religion Can very in North America, but a majority of the people are Christian. You can find Hindu, Islam, Buddhism and many other religions practiced in both the USA and Canada.

Religion When you compare religion in Canada and the United States, you conclude that: A. there are about twice as many Catholics in the U.S. as in Canada. B. there are about half as many Catholics in the U.S. as in Canada. C. there are about three times as many Catholics in the U.S. as in Canada. Culture Regions of Canada There are various culture regions of Canada. Example: Vancouver is almost 20% Chinese.

Conflict and Cooperation Languages, customs, and lifestyles differ among cultural groups. In Canada it was feared that the Chinese immigrants would change the Canadian culture. In 1975 they review immigration policy. The issue was resolved in support of multiculturalism.

Technology North America is one of the leaders in innovative technologies.
