Significant Properties - where next?

Curatorial role in SP Object analysis will enumerate technical properties and identify the purpose for each Stakeholder analysis will determine what is important to different user groups by determining actual behaviours, turning them into functions and cross-matching with object analysis The success or otherwise of transformations can measured by reference to Significant Properties

SPs in repository workflows Availability and adequacy of characterisation tools (Partly) manual activity for the foreseeable future Encoding for machine processing Requires a metadata schema Possibility of standard ‘profiles’ over time Sharing results and best practice Always relate to institutional mission

In conclusion Significant Properties can act as a bridge across time to ensure the persistence of what is important in digital objects throughout their lifecycles

Acknowledgments InSPECT was funded by JISC and was a collaboration between the Centre for e- Research at King’s College London and The National Archives
