I. Health in the Past ► Infectious disease was the leading cause of death. ► People died from diseases such as the flu and bacterial infections. ► One was considered healthy if they were free of disease.

II. Health Today ► Infectious diseases are treatable. ► Lifestyle diseases are the leading cause of death.

III. Lifestyle Disease ► Disease caused partly by unhealthy behaviors and partly by other factors.

IV. Health Risk Factors ► Controllable Risk Factors  Physical Activity  Diet  Weight  Smoking  Drinking ► Uncontrollable Risk Factors  Heredity  Race  Gender  Age

V. Six Health Risk Behaviors 1. Sedentary Lifestyle. 2. Alcohol and other drug use. 3. Sexual activity. 4. Behaviors that cause injury. 5. Tobacco use. 6. Poor eating habits.
