Matthew Chapter 2:1-12 TRUE WORSHIP OF THE TRUE KING I.Introduction A.Last week – Matthew 1 1.Genealogies of the Bible.

a)Verses 1-6, Abraham to David b)Verses 7-11, Solomon to the Babylonian captivity c)Verses 12-17, the captivity to Jesus’ stepfather. (1)Luke - Mary’s family.

2.The link between Jesus and Abraham. a)Also link between Jesus and David! b)They never questioned His genealogy! (1)Matter of public record.

1.The woman taking the man’s name. 2. “Tamar”, “Rahab, “Ruth”, and Bathsheba were Gentiles! a)The gospel message! (1)Tamar the widow. (a) The sinner.

(2)Rahab a woman of great faith! (a) She “believed”. (3)Ruth a Moabite! (a) Boaz “saved” her. (4)Bathsheba - the Lord sees us as innocent. (a) David accountable. (i) 4 women = the sinner!

B.Jeconiah - to establish Jesus had a “legal” right. III.Matthew 1:16 A.The Hole Spirit told them to call their baby Jesus. 1.Jesus = “Jeshua.”

a) “Jesus” = “The Lord is salvation”. b)Called “Messiah”. (1)Messiah = “the anointed one.” (a)Much placed on His shoulders! IV.Matthew 2:1-2

A.3 “wise men” knew who He was! V.Matthew 2:3-6 A.Herod was threatened. 1.They were not the first to worship!

VI. Matthew 2:7-12 A.Contrast between true and false worship! 1.The best of all they had with promise of nothing in return. 2.For Herod utmost selfish motivation.
