 The IAH “Partnership” with CMS—the need for delay and 2-year extension of the Medicare Demo  Unanimous, bipartisan approval of IAH extension legislation in Senate (S. 971)—cooperation by Senators Wyden (D-OR), Markey (D-MA), Bennet (D-CO), Burr (R-NC), and Isakson (R-GA)  Introduced in House—H.R. 2196—Dr. Burgess (R- TX), Roskam (R-IL), Smith (R-NJ), Forbes (R-VA), Thompson (D-CA) ©AAHCM 2

 Senator Markey: “The Independence at Home program is moving quality health care from emergency rooms to living rooms for our most vulnerable seniors. This pilot program extension will allow teams of doctors and nurses to continue to care for severely ill Medicare patients in the home, bringing the house calls of yesteryear into the 21st century.” ©AAHCM 3

 IAH addresses the #1 problem facing every health insurance plan—the small percentage of chronically ill patients who account for the majority of health care costs—Medicare, Medicaid and private insurance  IAH-style models now operate in all 50 states and D.C. ©AAHCM 4

 Bipartisan agreement on the following: ◦ Insurers must accept enrollees with pre-existing conditions ◦ Insurers must cover dependents until age 26 ◦ Insurers should not set premiums based on health status ◦ Insurers should not be permitted to cap liability ◦ Insurers should not be allowed to rescind coverage (other than for non-payment of premiums) ©AAHCM 5

 The cost of health care is projected to grow faster than the growth in GDP for the foreseeable future  Health care must be moved out of hospitals  “Somebody’s got to do it”—You will do it well, or others will do it badly ©AAHCM 6
